Steve MacGregor is one of our top instructors at Bristlecone Shooting, Training, and Retail Center, and he was named Employee of the Month for November 2017.   He’s also serves our Range Safety Officer and Retail Sales Lead. 

Born and raised in Colorado, Steve was introduced to sports shooting at an early age and went hunting with his father and older brother.

In 2016, Steve received his Bristlecone Instructor Certification and Range Safety Officer Certification.  In 2017, he received the Defensive Firearms Coaching Certification, NRA Basic Pistol Certification, and NRA Instructor Certification.

Steve teaches Bristlecone’s Intro to Pistol Class, Fundamentals of Conceal Carry Class, Practical Conceal Carry Class, Fundamentals of Home Defense Handgun Class and is also available for private instruction upon request. Steve possesses cutting-edge empirical training curriculum, which he takes pride in teaching to his students.

Question: How did you get started with defensive firearm training?

Answer: About seven years ago I was spending quite a bit of time with my young daughter. I felt it was important to provide her with the best protection possible when we were outside of our home. The best way, in my mind, was with a defensive handgun.

Question: What’s your favorite type of shooting?

Answer: My favorite type of shooting is competition pistol shooting and long-range rifle shooting.

Question: How long have you been with Bristlecone?

Answer: I have been with Bristlecone since December of 2015.                   

Question: What do you like about being an instructor?

Answer: What I like about being an instructor is teaching new shooters how to handle firearms properly and safely.  People who have never handled firearms before find it to be a very nerve racking experience their first time. But with proper training new shooters can overcome their fears and gain confidence. That is when I enjoy being an instructor — when I see the fear melt away and the confidence and safety build.

Question: What is your favorite thing to do outside of shooting?

Answer: One of my favorite things to do outside of shooting is HAM radio operations.

Question: What advice would you give to someone who’s interested in getting started in defensive handgun classes.

Answer: The best advice I could give someone who is interested in getting started in defensive handgun classes is to make sure the curriculum that is being taught is established and proven.  I would also recommend after any form of training they receive, that they practice regularly.  Their new skills will need to be solidified through repetition.
