U.S. House Approves Proposed Conceal-Carry Reciprocity Measure

On Dec. 6, the U.S. House of Representatives approved the Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act (H.R. 38), with a passing vote of 231-198.  The proposed legislation was introduced by Rep. Richard Hudson (R-N.C., 8th District).  If a similar measure passes soon in the U.S. Senate, it will make concealed-carry permits valid across state lines.

“For the millions of law-abiding citizens who lawfully carry concealed to protect themselves, for conservatives who want to strengthen our Second Amendment rights, and for the overwhelming majority of Americans who support concealed-carry reciprocity, Christmas came early,” said Rep. Hudson, upon the House’s approval of the proposed measure. (Source: Foxnews.com)

Second Amendment rights advocates are viewing this first step as a win, and hoping that it will expand the rights for concealed-carry gun owners across the county.  The bill proposes to “amend the federal criminal code to allow a qualified individual to carry a concealed handgun into or possess a concealed handgun in another state that allows individuals to carry concealed firearms.”

For concealed-carry reciprocity to become law, a similar measure must first pass a vote in the U.S. Senate.  At the time of this writing, no date has been set yet on the Senate vote; however, the next step may be forth coming soon.

Bristlecone Shooting, Training, and Retail Center, which offers concealed-carry and firearms training in Denver, will continue to watch what happens next with the concealed-carry reciprocity legislation, and we’ll keep you informed.  We are always here to educate our customers and to answer your questions.
