Important Firearm Purchase Law Changes Begin August 1

Colorado’s new firearm purchase requirements under SB-003 take effect on August 1.

After the law goes into effect, purchasers of many commonly owned firearms will be required to complete additional educational requirements and law enforcement-administered steps before they can make a purchase.

If you’re planning to purchase one of these firearms, we encourage you to:

  • Learn how the new law may affect you.
  • Complete any required steps as early as possible.
  • Consider completing planned purchases before the August 1 effective date if appropriate for your situation.
