August is National Shooting Sports Month at Bristlecone Shooting, Training & Retail Center in Lakewood, Colorado

People can go target shooting year-round, but the month of August is National Shooting Sports Month—
a time for the community of firearms owners to celebrate and enjoy the shooting sports with friends,
family and newcomers they want to introduce to these lifetime activities.  So, grab a friend or family Member and bring them to Bristlecone for one of the many events, classes and specials we have planned this month!

First Shots FREE Event

You never forget your first shots!  Join the experts at Bristlecone Shooting, Training & Retail Center Saturday August 10th at 10AM for a FREE and welcoming introduction to the safe and recreational use of handguns.  Learn about the shooting sports in a safe and non-intimidating environment.  Receive classroom instruction and then time on the range to take your first shots with a certified instructor.  This is a FREE event, but pre-registration is required.  Contact us at 303.985.0989 or bristleconeshooting.com to register!

Membership

Share your Membership with a friend or family Member through August 23rd with our Bonus Membership Program!  When we were young, we were taught that a great way to make friends was to share…and what better way to keep that philosophy going than to share your Bristlecone membership?  For a limited time, we are offering all of our valued members the unique opportunity to share their benefits with a family member or friend!  We thought this idea was a great way to let your family and friends experience the range that offers the most benefits and enjoyable experience of any club in the area.  Hopefully when this unique offer expires, your guest will join you as a member of the Bristlecone family and will be able to take advantage of the many benefits we offer on a regular basis.  Contact Jennifer Stitt, our Director of Membership, for details at jstitt@bristleconeshooting.com.

We invite our Summer Members to join us on August 17th for a special Summer Member Appreciation Event!  We’ve enjoyed having you as part of our community this summer so much that we’re hoping you’ll continue on as a regular Member after Labor Day.  Mark your calendars for the 17th – we’re planning something special just for you.  Check our website and social media channels for more information as we kick off the month.  And… if you renew in to a regular Membership anytime during the month of August, you’ll be entered to win a Smith & Wesson M&P9 M2.0!

August 18th is a “Try a Firearm for Free” event for all Members.  All day on Sunday August 18th, all Bristlecone Members can enjoy FREE rentals on our range.  All you have to do is buy the ammunition.  So, if you’ve been wanting to spend some time sampling – this is your chance!

The FREE for Members seminar in August is focused on our Shoot House Training Environment.  We have revamped the curriculum so that we can offer more classes for less money with more scenarios.  Sounds great, right?  Come sample the new curriculum called ReACT (Recurring Armed Combat Training) Saturday August 17th at 9AM or Thursday August 22nd at 6PM.  VERY limited space available because you will be participating in actual scenarios during the seminar, so hurry and sign up!  These classes will be available on our regular training calendar starting September 1st.  These seminars are FREE for Members in August, $25 for non-Members.

We’ve added a new local business to our Neighborhood Discount Program for Members – Pro-tint Window Tinting.  They are offering Bristlecone Members 10% off window tinting and paint protection.  Check out the full list of participating business here.

Training and Events

We’re happy to bring you new and improved educational opportunities every month.  Check out what’s new in August:

Family Intro to Firearms

Want to learn about firearms and safety as a family?  Check out this new class on our calendar starting in August – Family Intro to Firearms is a general firearms course during which students will be learning about how to safely handle Pistols, Rifles, Shotguns, and Muzzleloaders. This class is geared towards beginner shooters of all ages (10 and up) with limited to no experience with firearms handling.  Check out our training calendar for more information and to register.

Lunchtime Locked and Loaded

Our Lunchtime downrange drill sessions will continue this month for just $15.  Starting in September the price will change, so take advantage of this great deal while you can!  These sessions happen every Thursday from 12-1PM and are a great way to practice more advanced, move and shoot skills with our instructors Tanner and Kyle.  Pre-registration requested here.

New ReACT Training Sessions

Did you know that Bristlecone has a Shoot House training environment as a compliment to our live fire range? We use Simunition ammunition and equipment, coupled with scenarios customized to your level of training to give students an “as realistic as possible” preview of what their reaction would be when confronted with a variety of threats. If you’ve taken a Shoot House class with us already – this is a change to the structure and scenarios associated with this type of training. Join us August 17th at 9AM and August 22nd at 6PM to test out this type of training for yourself. Limited availability as we will be running 3 scenarios in a 2 hour timeframe. FREE if you’re a Member of Bristlecone, $25 for non-Members. No guns or live ammunition allowed in this class.

Rolled out last month – but still new!

Security Team Tactics – Designed for Church Security Teams

This class was designed to develop the skills of a cohesive team or the key members of one team. Team members must register as a group by contacting instructor Tanner Noland (tnoland@bristleconeshooting.com). During this 4-hour course, team members will spend time in the classroom, live fire range and in our shoot house environment. After a general discussion and safety review in the classroom, our instructors will conduct a preliminary skills assessment during the first part of the live fire range portion. Down range drills with then be adjusted and executed accordingly. Skills involving moving, magazine changes and engaging multiple targets will be addressed. The class will then move in to the shoot house environment where scenario-based training will be used to hone communication and site specific skills, followed by a debrief and conclusion discussion in the classroom. This course includes a preparation call between the instructors and team leadership prior to the class, so that we are able to customize the curriculum to the specific needs and experience level of the team.

Tactical Rifle I, II and III – New, revised curriculum

These classes are back on our calendar with a new pricing structure and a whole bunch of new drills and tactics taught in the range.  This is an intermediate series of rifle classes appropriate for students that have taken Bristlecone’s Intro to AR course.  You can see when the first 2 are scheduled, read more and register here.

Glock Shooting Sports Foundation (GSSF) matches are back!

The next 3 sessions are 7/19, 8/2 and 8/11 with the awards ceremony following the match on 8/11.  If you’re curious about competitive shooting but haven’t tried it yet, these Glock Shooting Sports Foundation matches are a great place to start.  You can read more about them here.

Youth Club is back!

The 4 sessions this summer are 7/31, 8/14, 8/28 and 9/5.  This group was created for kids between the ages of 10 and 17 to enjoy the shooting sports in a community environment. Each week will bring a different activity (competition, skill development) in the range, as well as time for the participants to socialize and work with their Instructor on improving their skills. All skill levels welcome. The group will be focusing on USPSA matches and the associated competitive skills during this next series of sessions.  Interested in signing someone up?  Contact Cindy Coker at ccoker@bristleconeshooting.com for more information.
