The Home Defense Shotgun course is designed to educate students on what types of shotguns are best for personal defense, how to handle them safely and securely, choosing appropriate ammunition, and how to utilize them appropriately during a home defense situation. Intermediate and experienced shooters will benefit from the information provided on home defense scenarios. Based on scientific research, logic, and reasoning, this course will introduce various home defense shotgun options, home defense tactics, safe storage/staging, interacting with law enforcement, and the aftermath of an incident. Skills learned in the classroom will be reinforced during the live fire range portion of the class.
Required equipment:
- Shotgun (semi-automatic or pump action preferred)
- 50 rounds of #7.5 or #8 birdshot, 20 rounds of buckshot
- 10 rounds of slugs (optional)
- Shell carrier (side saddle, jacket pockets are acceptable)
- Hearing and eye protection
- Range appropriate clothing (crew neck shirt and closed toe shoes, pants and jacket with pockets)
- If you don’t already have the recommended equipment, please contact the instructor prior to the class.
Recommended equipment:
- Intro to Home Defense (recommended)
- Intro to Shotgun (required) OR discuss with instructor prior to class.
A minimum of 2 students is required to run the class or it may be canceled/rescheduled.
