Prepare Your Gun for Hunting Season

Written by: Joe Kriz

Hunting season is already upon us but it’s not too late to get your handgun, rifle or shotgun field-ready for late season. At Bristlecone Shooting, Training & Retail Center, we have the expert gunsmith services and wide range of gear to get your gun ready for big game, waterfowl, upland bird, turkey or whatever it is you’re hunting.

Gunsmith Services

An NSSF-rated 5-star indoor shooting range, Bristlecone is also home to the only full-service gunsmith shop in the Denver and Lakewood, CO area — and gunsmiths Nick and Andrew are two of the best!

“We offer a wide variety of hunting-related services from scope mounting and bore sighting to sling installation. We can also tune your firearm to the ammunition of your choice and offer custom fitting of shotguns to get you on target whether hunting or clay shooting.”

Drew is also a certified applicator of Cerakote and Duracoat, coatings designed to enhance the physical performance of your firearms while protecting them from corrosion and wear, perfect for hunters who spend a lot of time outdoors and in the elements.

Just want your gun thoroughly cleaned or safety checked? They do that too! Bring it in and ask about a private lesson on how to best maintain your firearm. And don’t forget, Bristlecone members receive 15% off gunsmith labor, plus one free firearm cleaning and safety check per year.

The Bristlecone gunsmith shop is open Monday-Saturday, 12pm-6pm, and can be reached at (303) 985-0989 x104 or gunsmith@bristleconeshooting.com. Firearms can also be checked in during non-operating hours by retail staff.

Gear and Accessories

While you wait for your gun, check out our inventory of optics, slings, knives and more in the Bristlecone Pro Shop.

Get on target with riflescopes and red dots from the likes of Vortex, Burris, AccuPoint, SIG SAUER and others, plus scope rings and optics mounts, for your bolt-action or AR-style rifle.

Slings from Magpul and Broomfield-based Allen Company will keep your rifle or shotgun on your shoulder while climbing and wading, and you’ll find endless uses for our selection of Gerber knives, hatchets and utensils.

Bear spray is also available for backcountry defense, as are Vault Cases by Pelican, available in various sizes for handguns and one or multiple long guns, to protect and store your gear from backcountry roads and TSA while traveling.

Ask our retail employees to learn more about hunting products and backup firearms.

Pull the Trigger

Now that you have your scope mounted and accessories added, get some trigger time in before the big hunt on our 25-yard indoor shooting range where you can sight in your optic, break in a new barrel or just send some lead groups down range. Shoot alone or bring your hunting buddy!

Per range rules, steel case and core ammunition is prohibited, as is all bird- and buckshot (slugs only). Rifle calibers up to .300 Win Mag and handgun calibers up to .44 Mag are allowed.

Whether you’ve already tagged out or have yet to dawn camo this season, are thinking about getting into hunting or just want to shoot your grandfather’s old deer rifle, we have the services, products and facilities to make it happen. Good luck this hunting season!
